Right guys, as much as I know you all love our broadcast tool sometimes you want a bit more choice. Below is a guide on how to use the amazing tool Adobe Flash Media Encoder which will give you more control over you broadcast which in turn gives you a better quality broadcast. Also because we’re so nice here at Selfcast HQ we’ve thrown in some more tools and how to use them to give you an even better broadcast, imagine that!
Checking your internet speed
- Go to www.speedtest.net
- Select your region and select the server triangle which is closest to you
- The test will start and you will be presented with your speed results.
Downloading Flash Media Encoder
- Go to: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/
- Scroll down until you see “Download now (version 2.5)”
- Follow the onscreen Prompts
Using Flash Media Encoder
- Go to www.selfcast.com and login using you details
- Hit the Broadcast button in the top right hand corner of the page
- When the broadcast tool appears click the tab labelled “Third Party”
- Click the “copy” Button next to the code that starts “rtmp” and open Flash Media Encoder.
- Open Flash Media Encoder, ensure the video box is ticked and that you can see your video device. Also ensure that if you require audio that the audio box is also ticked.
- When FME is open paste the code you have just copied into the box labelled “FMS URL:”
- Next to the box entitled “stream” enter “stream”
- Hit the “connect” button to ensure it connects.
- From here you can change and manipulate the amount of bitrate to suit your connection speed. We roughly recommend that you take the amount of your connection speed and half it on FME to gain the best quality for you.
- Hit “Start” and you should now be able to see your broadcast in the Selfcast carousel.
Additional Information
You do not need to run a speed test for the FME tool to work but we recommend it to get the best possible quality out of your cast.
At the present time any recording you do using the FME tool will not be saved to your pre recorded material carousel. It is something we are working on and will update as soon as possible.
Every time you close the FME tool and re open it, its recommended to re enter the “rtmp” code to ensure the broadcast works every time.
